Before I headed back from Charleston last Tuesday night, Nick and I stopped to eat at West Ashley Crab Shake in Charleston with my parents. We were lucky because they had their all you can eat crab legs and oysters. Crab legs are one of my favorite foods! I’ll never turn down an all you can eat crab feast.
Before our meal, we chomped away at the free peanuts. They drilled a large hole in the middle of the table and placed a bucket for the shells and trash. I thought that was awesome. Have you ever been to a restaurant where they let you throw the peanut shells on the floor? I’m glad this wasn’t one of those. That’s just gross.
The crab shack had a lot of character. I liked the baskets on the lights, the Charleston canvases on the wall and the hardwood floors.
My dad and Nick shared chicken livers as an appetizer. I would never…
I had a salad as my appetizer.
The service was so fast. Our food came out within ten minutes and it was wonderful.
I had been craving crab legs for a long time. I think the last time I had crab legs was last Christmas!
I steered clear from the oysters as well. The texture, the image, and the flavor is just all wrong for me.
The crab legs came with corn and red potatoes, both perfectly seasoned.
While the guys ate three more buckets of oysters, my mom and I ordered dessert.
We chose the chocolate cake and key lime pie. I’m not a fan of key lime pie, but absolutely loved theirs.
The chocolate cake was to die for. Who new chocolate cake could have so many different flavors and forms of chocolate jumping at you? The cake was sitting on a drizzle of chocolate and vanilla syrups. The cake was moist and perfectly portioned with the buttercream frosting. The top had a chocolate icing and the outside had dark chocolate shavings. Hopefully one day I can make something just as tasty and beautiful! I never thought a crab shack cake would inspire me.
What is your favorite seafood?

I absolutely LOVE crabs…mmm these have me craving some. I’ve never seen oysters served like that in a bucket. Down in South Louisiana, they serve them by the dozen, already shucked on the half shell. Interesting! I love them but couldn’t imagine putting down that many at a time, WOW! LOL!

Oh my! The crab legs and chocolate cake looked absolutely delicious. We are on the same page about chicken livers and oysters though (yuck!). My sister and I have been talking about going down to Charleston this spring, and we may have to try this place out! I may never want to return back to the midwest though..
