Most families have a recipe that they make on special occasions. They may taste great, but it’s the tradition of the recipe that makes it special. Every year since I was a little kid, my mom would make her strawberry dessert on holidays. It wasn’t a Thanksgiving or Christmas without my mom’s strawberry desert. The first bite puts you right in the mood of the holiday if you weren’t in the spirit already. And this year was no different; the first bite put me right into the holiday spirit. Oh it was so delicious!
This was the first time making my mom’s dessert without her. I was a little nervous it wouldn’t taste as great as hers, but I did a pretty good job. I’m sure she’d be proud. It’s one of my Dad’s favorite desserts, so I saved him a piece to bring down to Charleston for him.
*Ingredients: *3 cups crushed pretzel, *3/4 cup butter, *3-4 tablespoons white sugar *1 package (8 ounce) package, *1 cup white sugar, *12 ounces whipped cream topping, *6 ounce box strawberry jello, *2 cups boiling water, *10 ounces sliced frozen strawberries.
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-Add two cups of boiling water to jello and mix until combined.
-Add sliced frozen strawberries to jello. (I sliced whole frozen strawberries) *do not thaw out*
-Place strawberries and jello in the fridge.
-Melt the butter in the microwave and mix the three tablespoons in with it.
-Add the butter mixture to the crushed pretzels.
-Pack the pretzels down in a 9x13in baking pan.
-Bake for 10 minutes.
-In an electric mixer, combine the cup of sugar and cream cheese.
-Add the thawed out whip cream.
-Mix until all the cream cheese lumps are out.
It’ll be ready to assemble as soon as the pretzel crust has cooled and the jello mixture has thickened. (about 45 minutes)
Spread cream filling out evenly over the pretzels.
Spread the jello and strawberries over the cream filling.
Let it refrigerate for 2-3 hours.
I was so excited with how well it turned out and everyone loved it. It’s and easy dessert to make and a crowd favorite!
You can definitely make this lighter & gluten free if you swap some of the ingredients.
