The worst part of the trip is over with! The apartment in Detroit is empty, clean, and abandoned. I didn’t sleep very well last night. I was either too cold or too hot. I kept playing with the thermostat, changing my clothes, and switching up blankets. I finally fell asleep around three, but Grumples woke me up at five to go to the bathroom. He has never done that before. He is like an person that falls asleep at nine and doesn’t want to wake up until ten. I knew sleep wasn’t meant to be for some reason, so I gave up. I took him for a walk and then hopped in the shower to start the day. I can’t wait to get a good nights sleep tonight. I still have a trip ahead of me, but it’ll be over with soon.
Yesterday was go go go. I had so many things to get done and not enough energy to do it. What happens when I need energy? Starbucks! My go to energy drink is a non fat tall latte with four shots of espresso. I add a little honey to sweeten it up.
We wanted to leave Detroit around noon, but that didn’t happen. We ended up leaving at 2pm. I followed behind the U-haul and Jeremy attached the company car.
I packed watermelon, popcorn, pistachios, and cantaloupe for the road trip. When I get bored, I like to eat. Don’t act like you never do that…
Awesome photo, right? Thanks, cell phone!

Two years ago, we moved all of our stuff out of our place in Chicago and put it into a storage unit when we found out we were going to be traveling. It’s been in there for almost two years and we haven’t touched it. We wanted to load it all into the truck with our other things and store it in Iowa so we could bring it to our next move. (not South Carolina)
Unfortunately, our unit was on the second floor and all the way down the hall. It took about three hours to unload it all into the truck. Usually I’d be happy about the workout, but moving sucks. Working out is fun. This wasn’t worth any of the calories burnt, muscles built, or endorphins earned.
Grumps had fun running up and down the halls which made it better for me.
After loading up, we drove to a hotel to crash. I told Jeremy he could keep driving, but I was going to stay. I don’t like to drive at night. I don’t have great eyes, I need to get my headlights fixed on my car, and Grumples had enough traveling. Jeremy didn’t argue, he was ready to crash too. We were too tired to even stop and eat at a restaurant, so I ended up eating the entire bag of skinny pop popcorn, and all the pistachios. I also robbed some of Jeremy’s Twizzlers from the vending machine.
I’m about to wake Jeremy up, but wanted to have breakfast and blog first. If you were gluten free, you’d have to steer clear from the hotel breakfast here. They offered: bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls, donuts, waffles, cereal, toast, and oatmeal. I went with the whole grain toast, jelly, and butter. I have fresh fruit and yogurt in my car that I’ll dig into later. Hotel coffee usually has packet creamers and sweet and low. In my coffee, I add a splash of milk from the cereal bar and go without sweetener.
Well…I better get on the road!
Have a great day everyone!

Drive safe! I am sorry Michigan kept dumping snow on you guys while you were there! I grew up in Michigan (now I live in St. Louis) and it normally snows only a fraction of what it did this year.

I thought it was pretty funny! When we got there, everyone kept saying “oh we have mild winters”…and oh boy was it far from mild! The summer was gorgeous tho! I’m so happy I had the chance to experience it.

Hi there!
It´s really interesting how you live your lifestyle and moving around.
…and hey… i´m soooooooo in love with your Mr. Grumples!!! He is so sweet! ♥ Which breed of dog is he? My “best friend” (and his little brother of course) is a giant schnauzer named Sirius. Grumps and Sirius seem to be quite similar in their charmingness. Huge babies. 🙂
Next… I just want to thank you for keeping me on track!
Your entries inspire me every time I come around. It´s so hard to keep the lifestyle with a family. *sigh* So I come here when I´m struggling. Just hate, that I can´t eat avocados. I love their taste, but the stomachache after eating them keeps me away. Still looking for alternatives.
Ha, while I´m writing…there is something I want to tell you. I tested your eggnog granola back in December. Guess what happened? 🙂 It tasted really, really goooood… BUT… it broke my back tooth! eek! I snacked on it around 5 a.m. while I packed the lunchboxes for my family. CRACK! … and that was it.
But don´t worry, my dentist is a wizard. He fixed it in no time. Honestly… I guess I baked it a bit too long.
Okay… I´m having a verbal diarrhoea.hrhr
Just wanted to wish you a safe move!
A big hug to Grumps …and to you of course, if you like!
