Last weekend my parents visited Jeremy and I in Michigan. We thought it would be nice to take them out on the lake for a fishing trip. My dad was so excited when he found out the plans. This is right up his ally! Our family is very competitive so we were all talking ourselves up and putting pressure on each other. I had to catch the first fish, the biggest fish, and the most fish! I just had too!
After a 45 minute ride on the water, we were finally in Canada! The lines were ready and I hovered over my pole waiting for a bite. If you’ve ever fished for muskie, you know they are not easy to reel in. I had to mentally and physically prepare myself!
All of a sudden my pole went crazy. The muskie had arrived! I worked and struggled for about fifteen minutes to reel this guy in. Finally he made it to the boat. I wasn’t going to give up or hand my pole over for someone else to take over! The blisters will tell you how determined I was to catch this fish!
Once we weighed and measured the fish, the captain was shocked. It was the same size of a winning competition fish. 38 lbs and 50 inches long! I couldn’t stop smiling. After getting pictures, I kissed the fish and threw him back into the water.
Jeremy caught the next fish, and as you can see I was still in the lead. And it felt so good! Jeremy’s fish basically swam to the boat.
My dad caught the next fish. It was big, but only 18 lbs. I was still in the lead. And I wasn’t going to let my family forget it!
All of this sun and fishing worked up an appetite. I packed a salad from Potbelly’s in my cooler. I had the vegetarian chickpea salad with feta instead of blue cheese and a side of non fat vinaigrette salad dressing.
My mom caught the next fish and unfortunately (for her), didn’t beat me! Later in the evening I caught a HUGE catfish, but we threw it back in! I was dominating this competition.
We also packed grapes!
Our captain was a full time pastry chef. He studied in France. I thought that was so cool. He made us chocolate chip and macadamia nut cookies. I have never tasted anything like these before. They were like Subway cookies on crack!
I was sad when the day ended, but all that sun wore me out!
Nothing better than spending time with family 🙂
And being the fishing champ!
